Steven
Allender was born in London in 1965. He is entirely self taught, having
followed a career as a freelance cartoonist. His time is now spent
concentrating on his art, and the observation of the beauty of nature. Working
in oils Steven is inspired by the radiance of the world around him, he is
fascinated by the relationship of the elements, the movement of the sky and
water. Each composition is an examination of these with every brush stroke
working with the next to capture the atmosphere of the moment. References of Isaak
Levitan and Alfred Sisley are evident in Stevens work. As he says “they are
both focused purely on capturing the image before them. I've always felt that a
good landscape painting should be more than just a visual experience. It should
draw in all your senses. When I look at their work I can feel the warmth of the
sun, hear the movement of the water and somehow I'm aware of what exists beyond
the boundaries of the canvas”. It is through this process that Steven is able
the share with the viewer his vision of the world and encourage the viewer to
scrutinize their relationship with the world around them. Stevens’s paintings
feature in many private collections worldwide.
