Roy was born in London in 1935. He trained at the London School of Printing
and Graphic Art where he studied life drawing, photographic re-touching and
graphic design. His early career was as
a commercial artist and later, whilst serving with the R.A.F., he designed a
number of service badges for 90 Group Signals Section working in co-operation
with the Royal College of Heralds. After National Service he resumed a career
in advertising, working on major accounts.
He started his own design studio with a partner and finally left the
advertising world to concentrate on fine art. His studied
included Old Master painting techniques under the guidance of Ingmar Seidl, an Austrian artist specialising in 17th
Century Dutch painting techniques. Roy paints most types of subjects,
landscape, portraits, but especially still life and flowers.
