DeSausemarez was a painter, teacher & writer. He was born on 20th October 1915
and studied at the Royal College of Art from 1936 to 1939. His book “Basic Design” had a revolutionary
effect on art education in many parts of the World. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal
Society of British Artists, the London Group, the New English Art Club,
Leicester Galleries, the Arts Council, Grosvenor Galleries and at the
Tate. He was elected Member of the New
English Art Club in 1950, Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in
1952 and Associate of the Royal Academy in 1964. He was Head of the Department
of Fine Art in the University of Leeds from 1950 and lived for some years at
nearby Rawdon, also in London. He died
on 27th October 1969. His
work is in the Collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Contemporary
Art Society, Ferens Art Gallery Hull, City of Leeds Art Gallery and Wakefield
City Art Gallery. He also participated
in the Pilgrim Trust “Recording Britain”.
