Peter
Partington started sketching and painting at an early age. From his early teens he lived by Poole Harbour where he gained much of his
inspiration for painting wildlife. After school and during the holidays and at
weekends he would often spend many hours bird watching and exploring all the
inlets and unspoilt areas of marshland, woodland and meadow around the
harbour. He is a Member of the Society
of Wildlife Artists. After qualifying at
Bournemouth College of Art he went on to teach for many years but later,
because of the demand for his work, he gave it up to work full time as a
painter, etcher and sculptor. He has had
many one-man shows and exhibited widely in Britain and abroad and is often
asked to participate in important conservation projects, one of which was in
the spring of 1992 when he was invited by the Artists for Nature Foundation to
join them to record the Briebrza Wetlands to publicise the need for their
conservation and in 1994 he was invited to Extramadura in Spain. He was invited in the
Spring of 1992, by the Artists for Nature Foundation, to join their group of
artists to record the Briebrza Wetlands to publicise the need for their
conservation. He was invited again to Extramadura in Spain in 1994. Both trips
resulted in sumptuous books which contain examples of his work. His talent has
gained deserved recognition as a prize winner in the European Bird Art
Competition. He willingly shares his expertise and he now writes regularly for
'The Artist' magazine on a range of painting subjects from landscape to
weather, to birds and drawing. He has illustrated many books including the 'Secret
Lives' series published by C. Helm and regularly writes articles for magazines
including “The Artist”. He also wrote
“Learn to Paint Birds in Watercolour” which was launched at the Tyron Gallery
in Cork Street, London in 1989. He has since written and illustrated three
further books in the “Learn to Draw” series.
There are several pieces of his work in the collection of the The
International Museum of Wildlife Art International
Museum of Wildlife Art.
